ANNIE MONTGOMERY WHEELER

ANNIE M. WHEELER PIONEER, PASSES; DEATH COMES TO VALLEY RESIDENT OF PAST 65 YEARS. Mrs. Annie Montgomery Wheeler, 82, a Kittitas valley resident 65 years and one of he valley’s oldest remaining pioneers, died here last night following an illness of six weeks [died April 26, 1945].

Mrs. Wheeler had not been in good health, for several years. However, she survived a fall five years ago in which she suffered fractures of both hips, learning to walk again.

Mrs. Wheeler was born near St. Helena in Napa County, California, March 27, 1863. She made her home there with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Montgomery, until August, 1880, when they came to Ellensburg by team and covered wagon.

On July 6, 1881, she was united in marriage to George Wheeler, a pioneer of the valley. Four daughters and three sons were born to them, all except one son, Clarke Wheeler of Ellensburg, preceding her in death. Also surviving are six grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Wheeler died in 1925.

She was a member of the Christian Church. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at the Honeycutt chapel, with Rev. Paul Deane Hill officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
